Public transit

Airports

The Pittsburgh International Airport is located in the western region of the city, just 20 minutes from Downtown. The airport is currently undergoing a $1.39 billion renovation.

Government Services

Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas have a number of DMVs—new residents must complete a health physical and visit a DMV in-person to apply for a new license. Existing residents can renew licenses and registrations online. You can register to vote online, by mail, or in-person. All Pennsylvania taxes can be paid online—city taxes vary by area. Healthcare

Pittsburgh is home to some of the most advanced hospitals in the entire nation. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Allegheny Health Network are two of the largest providers in the area, and both consistently rank among the best in the United States. In fact, U.S. News and World Report has listed both hospitals on their Honor Roll every year since 2000.

Schools

Most school districts in Pittsburgh are managed on a local level—however, if you live in the city, you'll likely be zoned for Pittsburgh Public Schools. Many children also attend magnet, charter, or private schools. Major colleges, such as the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University are all based in Pittsburgh.
